A bit about me

I thought it was time for me to tell you about myself a bit.

I’m a 30 year old single lady, living alone. I lived in Birmingham for about 6 years but decided about 5 years ago it was time to move back to my home city of Derby, although I do miss living in Birmingham.

My day job is a Recovery Nurse but hoping to move into being a scrub nurse although it’s been derailed a bit by our good friend COVID-19, as a lot of people’s plans have been. I absolutely love my job and looking after people is definitely my calling in life. I've been a qualified nurse for about 8 years.

Family wise my parents and my siblings all live nearby and we are a close family, we love a board game and dinner on a Sunday. We have a family dog who lives with my parents, Murphy, he’s a Labrador/Springer cross, 7 human years old and my best friend. I would love a dog of my own but working long shifts and being on my own it just wouldn't be fair.

My interests aside from reading are walking and last year I challenged myself to walk 1000 miles and I completed it, it was hard work, took some dedication and quite a few wet walks in the rain to get there but I am extremely proud of myself for what I achieved.

There are more walking challenges I want to complete, like some of the National trails but that will require a lot more training before I am fit enough for them, Hadrian’s Wall Path and West Highland Way are top of my list.

I also am a huge Disney fan, I went to Disneyland Paris for my 30th birthday with my big sister last Halloween and it was the most magical birthday, I also enjoy musicals and again my plans to see the Lion King in the West End has been put on hold due to the state of the world.

I watch very little TV, my main entertainment is YouTube, I started by watching beauty/makeup channels however I now mostly watch Booktube and wrestling channels as another passion of mine is Professional Wrestling. I’ve been to see some live shows and I absolutely love it, yes it’s not all real but they are still amazing at what they do and I find the behind the scenes politics of wrestling fascinating as well as the shows they put on.

I enjoy listening to podcasts, particularly true crime, My Favourite Murder is a particular favourite and Last Podcast on the Left is always a good time.

I've been vegan for about 4 years, trying to reduce my impact on the environment by reducing my waste and trying to be more savvy with how I spend my money and where my money goes. This year my plan was to have zero plastic in my bathroom and stop shopping fast fashion, lock down has certainly helped me stick to no fast fashion as all the shops have been closed so nowadays you will mostly find me wearing my Lucy and Yak dungarees.

And of course now I read almost constantly, but I’ll talk about my reading habits in the next blog post.
